If you are reading this, you are probably new to the Purple Dragon MUD. Welcome! I just wanted to take the opportunity to share some of my experiences with character customization to help get you started. My background is primarily in the Mage class, but these thoughts should help out with whatever class you are considering.

First, race affects what class is suitable for a character. Think about it for a second, a gigantic Draconian probably would not make the best thief, and a tiny little Pixie is probably not really suitable as a warrior. Choose wisely.

Second, all of the skills available to your class can be purchased once you are in the game. Some of the skils are quite expensive, and they are not bought with gold, but with Training Sessions. There are a few ways to get Training Sessions besides levelling, seek them out.

Third, consult the help files once you are in the game, they are very extensive and informative, and gan really help you learn what's going on in the game.

On to Customization: Ideally, you want to keep your Creation Points (CP) under 40 to minimize your Experience Points to level. Many of the skills have level restrictions on them, so it does not really benefit you to pick them off the bat. Sit back for a minute and think about your character and what you are wanting to do. If you are a mage, combat magic skills are probably a good bet, but the weaponmaster skill is probably not a good choice. Some of the skills may not be beneficial at all, even though they sound good. It may be tempting to take a skill like Riding right off the bat, but do you even know where to get a mount?

Most importantly, if your character isn't progressing well in the first 10-15 levels, and you find that your character isn't working, you can always delete your character and recreate yourself to get a combination that works for you.

Hope this helps.

Raquel
